In collaboration with one of our clients, a multinational organisation, Kukhula Global Projects have embarked on a Mixed Farming Systems learnership for 15 unemployed Youth with Disabilities, to provide a life changing opportunity.
We were incredibly honoured and excited to welcome members of their Team from Cape Town and France for a tour at the SEED Rocklands Abundance Centre in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town where our incredible hosts showed how our learners practically implement the skills learnt back on the land and in combination with this practical application and Kukhula's and SEED's entrepreneurial drive, learners are able to start and run their own agri-business.
The learners are taught how to grow vegetables, plants and flowers, with the vegetables supporting three local feeding schemes, and then using plants and flowers to make homemade products such as shampoo, conditioner, hair gel, washing powder, soaps and more which also creates household resilience. They also learn how to make bread, do worm farming and make worm food, how to use edible forests/trees for superfoods, and also make compost which can bring in a sustainable income.
They are able to sustain not only themselves but their families, and also make an impact in the community. Our learners presented their business ideas and what they have learnt thus far to the Team, while a representative from our alumni group, presented on their business Green Wizard Agri in Parow, Cape Town. We are all very eager to see the growth, change and impact with the group over the coming months and watch their new businesses develop.
